maiyet in motion

Maiyet has teamed up with director Cary Fukunaga (Sin Nombre 2009, and Jane Eyre 2011) to create this gorgeous short film.  Aren't those images are just breathtakingly beautiful?

More beauty and the story behind the brand...

Maiyet is a luxury label that sees fashion as a means to a greater good.  Here's the official story from their website:

Paul van Zyl spent over 20 years working in human rights and transitional justice, first under Archbishop Desmond Tutu as the Executive Secretary of South Africa's Truth Commission and then as the Co-Founder of the International Center for Transitional Justice.  After winning the Skoll award for social entrepreneurship and attending the World Economic Forum at Davos, Paul met Daniel Lubetzky, a pioneer in using business to promote peace.  They decided to co-found a company that would use the power of the market to allocate capital to peace. Their hypothesis was that if they could source from and grow companies that had a stabilizing effect on their communities, they would be on their way.  Paul and Daniel believed that a fashion brand held the greatest opportunity, and the idea for what is now Maiyet was born.

Pretty good, right?  And what's even better is that Maiyet is able to back up that philosophy with damn good design, creating gorgeous, highly covetable pieces collection after collection.  I'll show you some of that later this week, but for now, a few glimpses into their process...

This is the kind of company I dream of being a part of.  For, you know, when I grow up...

  1. Beautifully shot and the last video was especially interesting - I'd never really thought of how they took the wool from the goats. Look forward to seeing what you pick out later this week.

  3. I'm completely impressed by this discovery! It's indeed a dream of brand for their social commitment, but not only that, the film is absolutely beautiful, it does translate the essence of the brand, a real and truthful meaning behing the textures.

    Really impressed and thank you!
