chop chop

Seems like I can't stop talking about my hair lately.  I guess it's a side effect of the short haircut.  It needs more attention, which means more frequent cuts (which I'm so bad at), which means more thought given to the possibility of change and more opportunities to do so.  With my long locks nothing was ever really newsworthy except maybe a decent fishtail or twisted up-do.  But now every few months I pour over photos to try and decide what to do next.

My last cut was a real dud, so I've waited many more months than I should have to grow it out a bit so I could have a chance at something awesome.  Fingers crossed tomorrow I get awesome.  My usual hairdresser (who I love, despite the last cut) is out of town and I decided I cannot wait another minute.  So I'm venturing into uncharted territory and trying someone new.  So nerve-wracking yet oddly thrilling!  (Yes, this is me, being wild and crazy.  Pretty much as wild and crazy as it gets.)

A few more photos I'll be taking to the salon for inspiration...

I realize these are all different cuts, different lengths.  But I think they have a certain choppy casual feeling in common.  Hopefully my new guy will get that and adapt it appropriately to my available hair (and face).

Do you ever switch hair dressers?  Or are you fiercely loyal?

  1. I'm the same, I've got an appointment for next week and my regular hairdresser is on sick leave so I have to use someone new. Eep!

I love your inspiration photos, I wish my hair had some texture so that I could achieve a similar cut. Mine is super-sleek and I have to really work with it to get any kind of texture. I'm trying to grow it out a bit, so I'm hoping I can go for a long bob :) Post photos when you've gone for the chop, okay?

    1. My hair is super straight as well, no natural wave to it at all so even though I have a ton of it, it mostly just sits there. But I have discovered some awesome texturizing products that help: B&B Surf Spray and Texture, Living Proof Amp2 and AG's The Oil. I'm pretty low-maintenence with my hair so I have to be able to just put a little bit of one thing in, muss it and go, and with any of these products I've kind of been able to do that. As long as I have the right cut ;) So far today's cut looks good, but of course it's super styled right now, so I'll have to wash and see how it behaves without professional help. Will post photos as soon as I can!

  2. I love messy choppy do's and am constantly striving for the perfect bed head. Mine is way overdue a hair cut currently but a trip to the hairdressers with my two boys is a big no no. It's stressful enough letting someone loose on my hair without worrying what my two nutters are up to. Totally the last look - black and white young Kate Moss?

And I'm not really that loyal - I just go to the cheapest of the best I can afford if that makes sense? And if my regular hairdresser is on holiday and needs must, then needs must.

    1. Yes, that Kate, she sure does know ho to look beautiful, huh? Your wanting the best cheapest high quality haircut makes perfect sense! Don't you get nervous though, hopping from hair dresser to hair dresser? I feel like even with someone you know it's always a bit of a crap shoot, adding more risk to the equation every time would be just too much adrenaline for me, ha!

  3. My hair doesn't seem to grow longer than shoulder length, so I have been playing with the thought of getting a real, cool haircut. I love the look on these ladies! :)

    1. Go for it! By the way, your hair color makes me want to go back to red. How do you get it/keep it so rich and vibrant? Such a gorgeous color!

    2. Hi again!
      First of all: thank you!
Well, before I dyed it, my hair was very light blonde. My hairdresser dyed it light brown with a lot of copper, and that picture was taken the day after (that's why it looks so vibrant, cause it was, before I washed my hair.) Sadly, the copper tones fade very quickly :( So now, a couple of weeks later, my hair looks very brown with a hint of orange :(

    3. Ah, light blonde, maybe that's the key. I was an orangey redhead for years so I know all about the quick fade, but it's also true that if you keep dying it red it has a sort of cumulative effect and lasts a bit longer every time. I think for now I'm staying a brunette but every time I see someone with hair like yours it makes me want to go back!
