Are you familiar with the lovely basic knitwear line Cardigan?  The silhouettes are all pretty standard, the sort of stuff you end up living in, and they have them in basic solid colors and also in fun dots and stripes, with the occasional sequin thrown in for some fancy. 

While the more intricate pieces are well out of my price range, the basic cardigans seem like a reasonable splurge (oxymoron?).  From what I hear they feel amazing and wear incredibly well.
