virgin spring

I've just stumbled on this editorial by Julia Hetta from Acne Paper (issue #12, Summer 2011).  The richness of color and detail and the incredible lighting just took my breath away, so I had to repost (from here) even though it is last year's news.

Don't they look like paintings by Dutch masters?  Virgin Spring has to be one of the most intriguing editorials I've seen in a long time, truly crossing the boundary between showcasing fashion and creating new visual art.

See more of these striking images after the jump...

  2. The first picture you posted is truly arresting. The styles are not really similar but I'm reminded of Paolo Roversi for some reason.

    1. Thanks for coming by, it's so nice to see you over here! The first one is by far my favorite too, something so haunting about it. I can see the similarities with Roversi's work, I think his photos often feel like paintings also, there's a kind of ethereal stillness that he captures that is very present here. I've heard with Roversi it's an effect of the long exposure times he uses, but who knows if that's actually a factor or not.
