see through

Sort of been living in this simple uniform of a sheer tank and cropped pants with an army shirt over the top for the cooler mornings (yes, autumn is coming!).   I don't usually do sheer, but this feels somehow safe in spite of the translucency.  It's a question of balance I think.  As usual in my outfit posts, a lot of these items are from years gone by and no longer available, but here are the details for the ones that are and some alternatives for the ones that aren't...

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7

Oh and yes, I actually do wear prescription glasses, in case you were wondering.  I usually have my contacts in so you may not have seen them before, but I swear they're not just empty frames.  Also, you may remember I was recently due for a new 'do.  Ta-daa!  Shorter, choppier, and less mullet-y, with some soft ombre highlights for a little added depth and attitude.  I have to say I'm pretty happy with it.  Feels good to enjoy my hair again!

    1. Thank you!! I'm actually super excited to be able to sneak in some fall clothes in the mornings at least. What can I say, fall's my favorite!

  2. I love the lipstick. It's such a feminine touch amongst the "boyish" outfit. Infact after I saw the pic, the first thing I thought was I need lipstick. It's really uplifting but I always scare myself with anything obvious on my face. It's something I need to break in to slowly.

The hair looks great - nicely mussed up. Like it should be. A bit I got out of the shower, ran my fingers through and gave it a shake and voila! And the specs - I like the specs. I wear specs too - in the evening but I am definitely a contact lens girl through and through. It's only just recently that I've started to give my eyes more "relaxing" time in the evenings - before I wore my lenses for as long as possible. Partly because it was just so easy to.

I actually have a khaki shirt myself but it's a little long in the body. I feel an alteration coming on ....

    1. Thanks Sue! Yes, you do need lipstick. We all do, just as an option. it's honestly the best pick-me-up for the face that exists! I say don't break into it slowly, just get a good solid red, like this one or Heat Wave from Nars. Just go for it!

The hair does look decent when it's mussed like this, but my hair's so straight and thick that it's actually pretty hard for me to get it to look this way, let alone stay this way. As my hair dresser says "it organizes itself too easily". Glad it looks like I just gave it a shake and voila though!

As for the glasses, I had an optometrist a few years ago who scolded me for wearing contacts too many hours in the day and too many days a week. Said we should think of them as high heels, you come home, they come off. I definitely notice my eyes getting more tired and dry as years go by and my tolerance for contacts is sort of lowering, so when I can I like to give my eyes a break. Having glasses I love definitely makes that easier.

  3. Your outfit is awesome. I love how chic something as simple as these pieces put together can look. My favorite is the Zara shirt- such a versatile piece. And your hair looks amazing!

    Cheers!

    1. Thanks so much! I'm still a little ambivalent on the hair, waiting for it to grow a bit more so I can have it a bit longer in the front, but for now it'll do. And I totally agree, sometimes the best outfits are simple ones.

  4. Very nice outfit! I like the proportions a lot, the slightly shorter pants with ankle boots, draped top and casual shirt, it's very harmonious and suits you well.

    1. Thank you! That's super sweet!

Sometimes a sturdy workshirt makes the perfect lightweight jacket. And Madewell always nails it in the shirt department.
