unsneaky sneaks

Yeah, those are my feet, in the funnest, most outrageous sneakers I've ever seen.

What was I thinking...?
I've been in dire need of comfy sneakers for ages now (see this post from over a year ago) but just haven't been able to find the right pair for me.  I was convinced I needed something minimalist, neutral and dark, something that would just blend in and disappear on lazy days.

Then I saw these at Zara the other day and it was love at first sight.  Who wants to blend in and disappear anyway?   Maybe what I really need on those lazy sneaker days is something to make me grin ear to ear.  That's what these do.  Husband has made endless fun of me, but I'm sticking to my guns.  He'll come around.  And even if he doesn't at least he's having a good chuckle.
And yes, that is bright orange pony hair on the heel.  What.

  1. I absolutely adore them! The are not eighties eurotrash at all - tell your hubs he knows nothing. I love them - can you tell I really like them? I've not even seen those in Zara - I've seen some similar in a green colourway but not the orange ones till on your post. I have to go and take a look at those - I may even have to copy you! Gosh - the things that come along and send you all in a tizzy. That's more the kind of standout that I like rather than a pair of coloured Nikes with a bit more interest. The black hints just make them go with everything so they are much easier to wear than you first think and not so heavy as a solid black pair. Will stop rambling about how much I love them now :o) but one last thing - the orange pony hair is da bomb isn't it?

    1. Hooray! So glad to hear you like them! Isn't it funny, you convince yourself you need something neutral, something that doesn't call too much attention to itself, and them BAM, something comes along to make you realize how wrong you were all along... And you're right, oddly enough, I think they will go with everything, it's the black accents and also that neutral tan suede. And of course, the orange pony hair. Goes with everything :) Let me know if you pick them up! ps- I saw the green ones in store as well, they're nice, but not nearly as much fun, right?

    2. No orange sneakers in Zara when I looked yesterday but it did at least make me try on the green camouflage ones which were actually really comfy and didn't look too bad - my first impression when I saw those a week or so ago was that they wouldn't suit me but they looked better than I thought. Comfier than the Nikes I bought and returned yesterday and loads more exciting. The Nikes were nearly there but they didn't make me smile when I looked at my feet. I don't need all my footwear to do that nor my clothes but when they do - it's great.

Just been to look at your Facebook page and your haircut is fabulous - very edgy - I wish I had the guts. I have always erred on the safe side where my hair is concerned. I had it cut to a layered bob seven years ago and everyone really liked it but the maintenance was a killer as was the hairdressing bill. Do you need to change your makeup to work your new do? I found that when I had shorter hair, I dressed more feminine to compensate and actually wore makeup. But I don't think you will need to - your style is a perfect compliment to your new hair. In two weeks when your hair has settled, you will feel as though it's always been a part of you.

    3. Glad to hear you're chasing the sneakers smile :) Those military ones are pretty cool too I have to say. If it wasn't totally unreasonable I would have considered both pairs. But I'm much more rational and disciplined than that ;) I would bet that the fit is the same though, so if you know your size in the green but crave the orange, I would just order them online. Let me know what you end up doing!

So glad you liked my hair! When it looks edgy I love it, but sometimes it just falls a little flat and conservative, I'm still getting the hang of styling it. I will say that a bright red lip looks pretty awesome with the new hair, more fun than glamour which is refreshing. I think you're right, in a few weeks this'll be old hat. And then I'll start thinking about a pixie... hahaha!

ps- my hairdresser knows how bad I am about going in for cuts. When my hair was long it was literally once or twice a year, and mostly cause I wanted to change the color. Now of course I have to go in more often to reshape it, but since she knows I'm lazy (and cheap) about it, she gives me these great cuts that grow out really well. Just saying, it's possible to go 2 months without a cut for a shaggy bob, I've done it.

  2. I kind of like them! They're so ridiculous, a total statement! And that orange is in anyways.

  3. Like them a lot! Awesome way to make sneakers more casual... I've always thought of sneakers as gym shoes and have seen big brands like Coach try to make them somehow wearable with jeans but that wasn't enough. This is more up my alley :) and I also like the bold color.

    1. Thanks! I agree, this is the first "fashion sneaker" (though that's not a term I love) that's really managed to do something different.

  8. Thanks for sharing this :) These look really crazy in a good way - they make such a statement despite the combo they are neutral enough to go with anything. So glad I didn't see these, I'd have wanted a pair too!

    1. Ha! Thanks. I thought you might get a kick out of them. I think we should all have at least one neutral pair of sneakers, and one super fun one. No reason my feet shouldn't get to have fun and be comfortable at the same time, right?
