water

This week I've been on a mission to fix my bad habit of reusing disposable water bottles.  I know it's horrible for your health, and I promise to stop.  Of course I have to find the perfect replacement, and I'm a chronic researcher, so it's taking a while.  I think I'm close to a winner though.  First up on my list of finalists: Klean Kanteen.

These super lightweight food-grade stainless steel bottles come in tons of lovely colors.  My only gripe is that the lid squeaks when you screw it on or off.  Not too many people seem to be complaining about that in the reviews, so either I am hyper-sensitive to metal screeching, or it goes away with use.

A few more great options and some water packaging that totally threw me for a loop after the jump...

Next up on my list are the BPA-free plastic bottles from Camelbak.  These have some wacky thing called a 'bite valve', and you drink through a straw, so you don't have to unscrew it every time you want a sip, and there's no squealing whatsoever.  But do I want to bite a valve and drink through a straw?  I honestly don't know if that's a plus or not.

Then there's the Bobble.  Also PBA-free, these guys have a little carbon filter built in to the top, which I think would be great if you were living somewhere like Barcelona or Madison where the tap water doesn't taste that great (no offense), but it may be a feature I don't actually need.  Even though they're so cute.

And last but not least, I'd like to draw your attention to something that kind of shocked me.  And then I was shocked that I was so shocked.   It made me think of my brother-in-law's girlfriend who was totally creeped out by the bricks of milk in Spain and wondered if we could buy a brand that came in a normal carton.  I didn't understand how the change in packaging could so throw her off, until I saw this the other day at our neighborhood deli:

Boxed water.  Weird, right?  Just saying.

Any recommendations for reusable water bottles?  Which do you use?

  1. I don't think it's a good idea to bite into plastic all the time.

  2. You know what...I like these. The colors are fun. And obviously better than plastic.
