well made

Oh Madewell, you get me every time.  This rough and tumble yet streamlined utility jacket has me craving crisp fall days when I can romp through piles of crunchy fallen leaves while wearing all kinds of layers.  I know, I was just saying it's still summer, and how great that is, but honestly, when it comes to clothing, I'm all about the fall.

Effortlessly perfect, right?  Course, it's not really the jacket, it's the whole Madewell identity; they're just so good at making us want their stuff.  I know I fall for it every time.

More aspirational fall styling from Madewell...

One thing's for sure, I'll be getting a lot of wear out of my (three sizes too big) Barbour jacket this year.  And my ankle boots aren't getting retired anytime soon either.  (Have you seen my ultimate guide to black booties?  If you don't have your perfect pair yet you may want to check it out.)  Oh and how cool is it to layer a silk button-down shirt under a t-shirt?  Kind of genius in my mind.  Definitely going to give that a go this fall.

  1. OH my goodness. I love Madewell. I've been coveting a pair of black skinny skinny jeans from there for ages. Maybe next month!

    1. I've actually never tried their jeans. I usually get so hypnotized by everything else I don't have any time/energy/money/stamina left to try on all the different fits! Next time I'm in the states I will have to give it a chance though, thanks for the tip!

  2. Their new lookbook has me seriously drooling but I can't get their stuff over here. I could cry. It's just that little bit edgier and less "perfect" than J Crew isn't it? Love the slightly grungey undertones and the grey camo print trousers are awesome.

I'm still on the hunt for the perfect black/grey ankle boots too. I sold my Topshop Ambush ones last year and I have an ankle boot shaped hole to fill but only a small budget or else I'd be in with a pair of Rag & Bones.

    1. Totally, it's like a tougher, rougher around the edges J Crew. Which pretty much guarantees that I'll be a sucker for every lookbook they do. I know they don't ship internationally, but since J Crew came around maybe they will too? Meanwhile, you know you can get a lot of their stock through Shopbop? Not all of it, that's for sure, but they do have quite a selection, and it's free international shipping as well! There's a link at the bottom of my post that should take you straight there...

As for the boots, I could have sworn you ended up getting a pair this winter! I guess I'm remember a certain rock n roll pair that you didn't nd up getting in the end? If I come across any new candidates I'll let you know. Madewell does have the Billie boot, which you could order through shopbop... Though for shoes from a label you're not familiar with maybe buying online without trying is a little scary.

  3. Oh, how I love Autumn lookbooks! All these gorgeous warm colours, and knits, and jackets... I discovered Madewell when I went to LA and like you, I really love their style and mood. Even though I can't get my hands on any of their items here in France, I can still take inspiration from their lookbook! This jacket is gorgeous by the way :)

    1. I know, everything they do just seems so comfortable and effortlessly cool. I actually think that, like with J Crew, most of the appeal is in the styling rather than the individual pieces themselves. Not that there's anything wrong with them, it's just that what we really buy into is the whole image. And I'm the first one to do so, I just love it! I mentioned this above, to Sue, but Madewell is being sold through Shopbop as well, and they have free international shipping! They don't carry everything, but they do have quite a selection. There's a link above the comments section in the post in case you're interested...

I will admit that the shopbop styling is nowhere near as good as Madewell's, but if you saw something on Madewell's site you liked you could swing by and see if they carry it. Let me know if you do!

    2. Yes it is true that it is the global mood that is appealing, the styling, the feeling of the brand. Even their in store decoration is great: a bit of authenticity with wood here, a bit of simple colours there, it took me a lot of will not to buy a dozen items when I was there. And thanks for the shopbop tip, oh my you opened quite the Pandora's box here! I was on the look for brown/taupe ankle boots for the fall season and I'm already in love with their Charley booties!

    3. Those Charley boots look great! Nice to see that extra low heel for a change. Sorry to be the evil temptress with the shopbop link, but I have to say, once they started international shipping all kinds of dangers opened up! Good dangers, of course ;)

  4. Yeah, I basically want to wear all of it. I didn't see any Madewells on my walks around NY, but then again I didn't go out of my way to find one - really kind of regret that now! Time to find the Lookbook and plaster it all over my Pinterest, I think ;)

    1. I'm surprised you didn't run into any in nyc, I know there's tons of them. Probably for the best, since you would have gotten totally sucked in I'm sure and had major shopping dilemmas ;) Their lookbooks are always so good.
