we can never be together

Hi,

I can't believe it was only yesterday.  You're not the sort of dress I'm usually attracted to but I knew from the first moment there was something special between us.  I'm not even sure if you're a nightgown or an actual dress, but let's not confuse emotions with labels.  I grabbed you immediately and took you to a private space where we could get to know each other better.  You slipped on so easily and made me feel carefree and adventurous and cool.  Your pseudo-hippie imitation-Morocco vibe contrasted so weirdly with my platinum hair and red lipstick it was like we completed each other.  My heart started palpitating; my excitement mounted.  But then I noticed that itch.  Why were you so rough with me?  And for that matter, why did you feel so... icky?  I was compelled to check your label, where I saw that while your soul is made of linen and gauzy cotton, they got it wrong in the factory and made you of 100% polyester.  They destroyed your essence.  I'm sorry, but it was a deal breaker for me.  I put you back on the rack and cried a little tear for what could have been.  I'm sure someone less sensitive will pick you up and you will have a fin time with her.  I wish you the best.

Ps - tell your makers at Oysho that they royally screwed this one, and that the next time they come up with a design that screams 100% cotton at them, they should probably just make it from 100% cotton.

simple pleasures

Sometimes the tiniest purchase can make a huge difference in your overall happiness level.  In my case, it was a pair of flannel pajamas for less than $20 that instantly elevated my mood and has continued to do so every day since I brought them home.

It might seem silly to be so enamored of simple pjs but...

tweedie

This is my new tweed clutch.  I made it myself.  From a pair of pants.  Seriously.

I'm not kidding.  Check it out...

black lace

Did you have a nice valentine's day?  While I'm madly in love with my husband (yes, even after 12 years together, knock on wood) we've never really been into this holiday.  Still, I'm not above an extra little dose of black lace, and any excuse is a good one.

clutch me

I stopped into Oysho yesterday to grab some pretty undies on sale, and inexplicably walked out with this clutch.  Of course I picked up some sale items as well.  Please.  As if I could resist.

counting sheep

I am smitten with this cozy sheep sweater from Oysho.  I'm not usually a fan of cutesie animal prints, but this one got me.  Also love the boyish boxy shape, I think it would be perfect for layering over a button-down (with a pop of color on the lips)

A few more greys from what is easily one of my favorite spanish fast-fashion labels...

not just pj's

It's no secret around here that much of my favorite clothes come, inexplicably, from a store that specializes in underwear and pajamas.  It doesn't make much sense to me, but I can't help it, I just love Oysho's easy-going, super comfortable, totally wearable pieces.

sneakers

I have two pairs of sneakers right now.  My munich and my chuckies.  I love them both so very much.

But recently I've been thinking maybe it's time for a new pair.  A different shape maybe, a different air.

Some options after the jump...

dip-dyed maxi

Sort of along the lines of my tie-dye post the other day, I found this maxi dress ridiculously on sale at Oysho.  It's really just a dip-dyed knit cotton sheath with a bell-tipped belt, but it makes me feel like a greek princess.   I jingle when I walk, like a cat with a bell around its neck, but somehow, that's totally ok with me.

green sleeves

There is no beach or pool anywhere in my near future, but I bought myself this new bikini top to trick myself into feeling like the possibility existed. As if I could just pop over to the seaside at any given moment, cause you know, I am wearing a swimsuit after all.  In reality I just love the blue on blue ikat pattern, and I think it's a great alternative to a regular bra for the summer.  Paired here with my Zara T-shirt worn backwards, which seems to me to be the better direction for it.

what i'm wearing - linen & leather

This linen jacket was a total impulse buy from the Garden Party Collection last year at H&M.  I didn't wear it at all last year, I'll admit it.  And then I saw it on sale for half the price I paid and felt like kicking myself repeatedly.  No matter though, because this year it's getting nonstop loving.  It's perfect for this in-between weather we've been having lately.

what i'm wearing

This is my first outfit post since I started seriously investing myself in this blog, and to be honest I'm a little nervous.  Funny how that happens.  It's not like I get  nervous when I go outside and people see what I'm wearing, but posting a photo here makes me feel a bit naked.  I do want to keep this blog personal and real though, and I love the idea of occasionally posting what I'm wearing.   What do you think?

oysho

Today I went into Zara, and found armfuls of the most perfect t-shirts in cottons, silks and linens, and those colored pants I've been coveting too, but then the lady in the dressing room said only 6 items, and when I suggested the usual I-take-6-in-and-leave-the-others-here she scoffed and then just turned her back on me. So I dropped it all and walked out. Still recovering from the flu, no energy for spanish customer service confrontations.
But I really really wanted to find something, you know that feeling? Even if it was just a pair of fun socks or something. Anything. So I headed into Oysho. While I'll never understand why this spanish lingerie/loungewear line is named something unpronounceable by all spanish people, I absolutely love Oysho. Most of my pjs and quite a few of my bras are from there, but they've also supplied me with gorgeous silk tanks and slouchy sweaters in the past. And really I was just going to buy a pair of socks to cheer me up, but I walked out triumphant.
perfect drapey flowy batwing t-shirt, with thoughtfully small armholes. take that Zara.
sheer polka-dotted cotton button-down, 3/4 sleeves, boxy-cut, and shorter than average, just to make it that much more special
little cotton nightie
how sweet is that print? doesn't it just make you smile?
And of course:
perfect spring-time socks
