Just to set the record straight, there is no shortage of t-shirts in my closet.  But graphic tees?  That's another matter.  I'm craving something slouchy and neutral (read: grey) with a unique and smart graphic printed on it.  So I scoured the web and found some that feel super personal, without me actually having to learn how to silk screen.  Plus, as a bonus, rather than buying from a superstore, you're supporting small businesses.  Like Zip-Dang in my hometown, responsible for the Great Lakes t-shirt above.

It was about a year ago that I posted those surreal sweaterscapes I'm so partial to and extolled the virtues of Vince knitwear.  Season after season they manage to just keep churning out high quality knits in totally covetable designs.  (And they last!  All of my Vince sweaters look impeccable even after years of constant use.)  But as much as I loved them, I was kind of convinced that was all they did and never paid much attention to the rest of their goods.  Until now.  So many good things on hand, like pony hair sneakers and oversized military coats:

getting my stripes

Who doesn't love a great striped t-shirt?  Finding the perfect one though, is not always an easy task, even among the millions of options out there right now.  I have a 3/4 sleeve linen t-shirt from Zara that I absolutely love, but since it's loose and slightly sheer with very thin stripes, it never satisfied my yen for a traditional striped tee.   Then I saw this one at Cos and I knew it was the one.

I stopped into Oysho yesterday to grab some pretty undies on sale, and inexplicably walked out with this clutch.  Of course I picked up some sale items as well.  Please.  As if I could resist.

everlane silks

I've been curious about Everlane for some time now, but their new silk shirts have really done it for me.  Gorgeous brushed silk, simple perfect-looking cut, all the necessary basic colors, even a few with contrasting placket details, and all for only $80 each.

harrow two ways

I spent the entire weekend in my new boots.  So good.  They are indeed as comfortable as I'd hoped, and I can in fact walk for hours in them.  Saturday night my boots and I even stayed out til 3 in the morning (a huge accomplishment for a homebody like me) and my feet barely complained at all.

Today I shipped off 6 more dvds to film festivals in an ongoing process that gets more streamlined but no less annoying by the day.  To celebrate I ducked into Zara on my way home.  Picked up some superb basics, I'm kind of over the moon about them.  Check them out...

Seems like I'm always going on and on about the perfect t-shirts.  But not only is it one of the most important staples in my closet, it's also the kind of thing where you want to have options.  Like, if I'm feeling flush, I'll splurge on T by A Wang.  If I'm near COS, I'll stock up there.  But if I'm in the states and I want to spend less than $25?  Urban Outfitters to the rescue.  And let me tell you, this is a perfect t-shirt.


The pinky nude is my favorite, but I'm thinking I may need to get some of the other colors too.   They drape perfectly and are buttery suede soft.  One piece of advice though: size down.  Way down.

cos II - blue

I warned you.  And I am a woman of my word.  Before I left Madrid I stopped in at Cos again and stocked up.  That place is dangerous in the best way ever.  By the way, I have no idea why everything I bought was blue; I didn't even realize it until after the fact.  I promise not to wear them all at the same time, I do not want to be confused with a blueberry.  Or a teletubby.

Cos, or Collection of Style, is big sister to H&M and has stores sprinkled throughout europe.  Oddly enough, I never thought to check if there's one in Madrid.  Well, there is.  Danger, danger!   The pieces are beautiful, minimalist, well-constructed, and the shopping experience there is totally and utterly enjoyable.  And yes, it is of course more expensive than its younger sister, but justifiably so, and I really think that each and every piece is a steal. 

And the t-shirts?  Can I just say that I'm no longer relying on Mr. Wang to supply me with perfectly draped silky soft Ts?  And that my new-found loves are half the price?  And can I also mention that while I still dream of having a VPL bra one day, this sporty number is bringing me all kinds of joy in the meantime?  These may seem like simple pleasures, but the quality is so great that I'm over the moon about it all.

This caught my eye today.

J. Crew, so of course, the styling is lovely, creative, and impeccable.  And of course, like the good little consumer that I am, I had to see what else they had to offer me.  And of course, as usual, they have tons of totally wearable stuff that I would not mind having in my closet.  Would not mind it one bit, I tell you.

Just look at all that cozy chic ocean-y cashmere.  A perfect simple cardigan, a slouchy boatneck with super slim sleeves, some gorgeous waffle-knit color blocking...  these guys know what they're doing.

James Perse, known for making lovely t-shirts, makes other stuff too.  How amazing would it be to cuddle up in this hooded poncho?  I'm sure it's highly impractical, being so chunky and bulky all the winter layering would have to be done underneath it, but it still seems like perfect snuggly goodness to me.
